Plans and Ideas
Well, this will be short, but I seam to say that a lot, huh? Really, all I plan to do to my '59 is to keep it stock. Except for a few details. Everyone has to make compromises, right? Anyway, I am going to keep the 292 V8, the transmission, the rear end, all that good mechanical stuff. But I have to change a few things that deal with creature comforts. I will replace the seat that was in my truck (when I pulled the truck from behind the horse barn, it had a seat, but was not the original. Someone replaced it with an after market seat back in the late-70's) with either another stock seat, or bucket seats of some kind. I'm not really looking into that right now, but it is on the drawing board. Then, of course, I am going to put an AM/FM radio in. Not necessarily drill a hole in the dash like a hot rod, but just bolt it in under the dash. I know it will look tacky, but this isn't going to be a show truck. I will put more than a few thousand miles on it a year. Hence the phrase "Daily Driver". A CD player, I am still debating with myself about that. But when the time comes, I will know what I want to do, regarding the sound system. Tinted windows. Too much sun coming in through the windows and hitting the chrome inside is not ideal for the driver. Alarm system. A couple at least. My mom has a CompuStar alarm system on her Lincoln, and it will do a number of things. Lock doors, open truck, set alarm, start car. The list goes on. But I want one of those for my truck. The remote start will work on manual transmissions too. Her car is an automatic. Then I want top have one of those Low-Jack systems. I think that is what they are called. Well, anyway, if the truck is stolen, then you can trace it and find out where it is. I don't want anyone stealing the truck. No one does, but me especially. But with my luck, it would get stolen. Anyway, I also might put power locks and power windows. But I want to keep the truck at least 90% stock. Then after I restore my '59, I might buy another one and hot rod it. I don't know yet. Money wise, I am not fit to buy any more trucks. But if I could, I would get a panel truck. '59 of course. I just like the panel trucks. They are cool looking. Well, that's it so far. Anything else I think of, I will update.
OK, What I plan to do with the cab mounts. Ugh! They are rusted through without a doubt. I mean, when you can just tear off the cab mounts with your hands, and it turns into dirt when it hits the floor, that's not good. And to make things worse, I am in no way a metal worker. I can't weld or use a cutting torch. That's bad. But my dad is good with the welder. Anyway, maybe if I can find some patches. I already found some for the back cab corners, but for the cab mounts, I haven't found anything. So maybe I fabricate some of my own. I mean, it isn't going to be perfect. The main reason they are so rusted out is because when my uncle used the truck, he would spit into the corners of the cab. That really wasn't good for the metal. So in short, I will make some of my own patches for the front cab mounts out of some sheet metal.
Here is the passenger cab mount.
Here is the driver cab mount.
Here is the inside of the back, driver cab corner.
Here is the outside of the back, driver cab corner.

Here is a hole in the driver side step plate.
Here, the cab is on the forklift. Scary, isn't it?
