1992 Ford Explorer
Oh boy. I bought a 1992 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition off my sister in June of 2002. And yes, I know I hadn't worked on the 59 since March, I kick myself every time I think about it. Anyway, getting back to the Explorer. I stayed with the Ford name, which is just pure luck. The pictures you see below are when I got, and began the cleaning process. Under the rear seats were large amounts of horse feed and hay. Don't ask. Anyway, now, in December, the little ute has proven well. Except for he following:
-When I purchased (actually, took over the payments), it had a blown head gasket, and a cracked head. Yes. So, out of my truck fund, I take $951.67 to repair(I didn't want to get into doing it myself). Ok, that worked.
-I'm a victim of creature comforts. The arm rest bracket was broken in two, so I paid $69 from Ford for a new bracket. Now that is fixed.
-Now remember, this is all around June-October
-October 21st, the day I get my license, at school, in the parking lot, my starter goes out. Miraculously, after rolling up the driver window, it starts, so I drive to the same mechanic, and have the started rebuilt, for $130.00 even. Well, I had a $175 tool set stolen out of the Explorer, that was mine, while it was at the mechanic's. Needless to say, I haven't had any other trouble, but I'm not going back to the same mechanic again.
So, what have I learned from all this? Well, it gets about 16 MPG, and no one will hire me for a winter job, although I am going back to Pleasant Pools in March. So, the grand total that I will have to pay (including car payments), not including insurance, or tagging, is $3281.67. Don't you LOVE SUV's?
